Scholarship Terms and Conditions

  1. To be eligible for one of the four (4) RBC Royal Bank® Scholarships for Undergraduates all applicants must (and will be required to provide proof of):
    • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
    • For graduating high school or CEGEP students, full-time enrolment at a recognized Canadian publicly funded post-secondary school for the Fall 2012 academic term by no later than August 31, 2012.
    • For full-time university or college students, proof of full-time enrolment in an undergraduate program at a recognized publicly funded Canadian post-secondary school for the 2011/2012 and Fall 2012 academic terms by no later than August 31, 2012.
    • Students with a disability who attend or are planning to attend post-secondary school on a part-time basis. Please see terms and conditions #17.
    • Minimum cumulative GPA equivalent to a 70% average.

    In addition, to be eligible for the two (2) RBC Royal Bank Scholarships for Undergraduates which are exclusively offered to RBC Royal Bank clients, an applicant must meet the criteria set out in section 2 below.

    If the school enrolment documentation is not submitted to the scholarship administrator, Studentawards Inc., within the specified timeframe, the application may be subject to disqualification.

  2. If you have indicated that you are an RBC Royal Bank client your status as an account holder will be verified at the close of the scholarship application acceptance period on February 16, 2012. Account(s) must be active and in good standing during February 16, 2012 and through to the scholarship selection and announcement period. If your status as an account holder cannot be verified or the account is not active or in good standing at the time of winner announcement, the applicant will not be eligible to compete for one the two (2) scholarships offered to RBC Royal Bank customers but will remain eligible to compete for one of four (4) other Undergraduate scholarships.
  3. If you plan to attend a post-secondary school outside of Canada next year as part of a year-abroad program you may still be eligible to apply provided you are participating in an exchange program as part of your undergraduate course curriculum at a recognized publicly funded Canadian college or university and your graduation diploma is issued from a Canadian college or university.
  4. Applications must be submitted online between Wednesday, November 16, 2011 and Thursday, February 16, 2012, 5:00 p.m. EST. Please note that the sample application PDF is available only to help you collect and organize your information but will not be accepted as an official application form. Submissions must be made online.
  5. You may submit your application in either of Canada’s official languages, French or English. However, applications must be completed and submitted using a single language.
  6. Application Evaluation Criteria:

    A judging panel comprised of post-secondary school educators, industry experts, RBC Royal Bank employees, and our scholarship administrator Studentawards Inc. will be responsible for evaluating qualifying entries based on the following considerations/criteria:

    • Extracurricular Activities: 45% of total score
    • Essay Answers: 55% of total score

    Essay answers will be scored based on the following criteria:

    • Clarity of thought and communication of arguments
    • Persuasiveness
    • Creativity/originality
    • Potential positive impact
    • Grammar and spelling
  7. Potential scholarship recipients (and in the case of minors, a parent or legal guardian) will be required to sign a Declaration of Compliance, Publicity and Liability Release before being awarded a scholarship. The signed declaration will include the recipient's consent to the use of their name, city and province or territory of residence and photograph, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by Royal Bank in respect of the Scholarship program.
  8. Employees, directors, and officers of Royal Bank and its subsidiaries and its scholarship administration agencies and those with whom they are domiciled are not eligible for the RBC Royal Bank Scholarship for Undergraduates.
  9. Royal Bank reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, amend (including extending the Scholarship application deadline) or cancel this Scholarship program at any time without individual notice.
  10. By entering this Scholarship competition I agree to be bound by these terms and conditions, the records of Royal Bank and the decisions of the Scholarship competition judges, which records and decisions shall be deemed final, conclusive and binding in all matters.
  11. I certify that all the information provided on this application form and in all the accompanying documents is true, accurate, and complete to the best of my knowledge. I understand that the provision of false information will render me ineligible for this scholarship.
  12. By submitting this scholarship application, I hereby authorize Royal Bank and its employees, agents, contractors and those of its affiliates (“Royal Bank”) to release any information provided in or relating to my scholarship application to its representatives, the scholarship judges, Studentawards Inc., and their respective representatives who need to know such information for purposes of administering and promoting this and other RBC Royal Bank scholarship programs. The selection committee will use the information only for purposes of evaluating my scholarship application.
  13. I authorize Royal Bank, Studentawards Inc. and their respective representatives to collect, use, store and confirm information about me from me; my application; from service arrangements I have made with or through Royal Bank; from high school, college, university, government, or community sources; and from references I have provided to Royal Bank, Studentawards Inc., and their respective representatives in my application. The information Royal Bank, Studentawards Inc., and their respective representatives may collect, use, store and confirm includes, but is not limited to, personal evaluations and transcripts.
  14. I hereby authorize third parties, such as universities, government or community sources to release information required for the Scholarship to Royal Bank, Studentawards Inc., and their respective representatives who need to know such information for purposes of administering the RBC Royal Bank Scholarship Program. This information may include personal evaluations, verification that student information is correct and transcripts.
  15. I understand and agree that Royal Bank will use information gathered in connection with scholarship applications in aggregate and anonymous form to further its understanding of undergraduate students in general. The aggregate and anonymous information may also be used for the scholarship program publicity or promotional purposes.
  16. In the event that I am a scholarship recipient, I grant to Royal Bank the right to use my name, likeness, city and province of residence, university name and any direct quotes made by me in respect to the Scholarship program for publicity purposes without further compensation.
  17. Students with a disability who will be attending post-secondary school part-time on the basis of their disability are also eligible to apply. Applicants must provide written documentation from their doctor which indicates that the applicant’s disability prevents them from attending school on a full-time basis. For the purposes of this scholarship program a disability is defined as “a functional limitation that is caused by physical, sensory or mental health impairment or learning disability that restricts a student’s ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate fully in post-secondary learning."
  18. The definition of what constitutes “full-time” status is determined by the post-secondary school being attended.
